Welcome to the Tennessee Climatological Service
The Office of the Tennessee Climatological Service is sponsored by the Department of Biosystems Engineering and Soil Science and the Department of Geography at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, TN, the Department of Agriculture, Geoscience and Natural Resources at the
University of Tennessee at Martin, and the Department of Agricultural Sciences at Tennessee State University. The function of this service is to collect, disseminate, and interpret climate data for the State of Tennessee. This web site provides links to sources of climate data and seasonal forecasts for Tennessee. Most data on the site are available for free; a charge may apply for additional data or interpretation, or for testimony in a legal case.

The National Climatic Data Center divides each state into climate divisions for many climate summaries. Tennessee has 4 climate divisions.
Latest news
Tennessee experienced an exceptionally warm winter/spring season with above normal temperatures (1-2 deg F above the previous record) and slightly above normal rainfall, fostered by the current La Nina conditions.
From November 2011 to April 2012:
Memphis - Since 1940, 1st warmest, 3.41" below normal
Martin - Since 1936, 1st warmest, 5.28" above normal
Nashville - Since 1940 1st warmest, 1.34" below normal
Crossville - Since 1912, 1st warmest, 1.33" above normal
Knoxville - Since 1920, 1st warmest, 6.10" above normal
Chattanooga - Since 1928, 1st warmest, 0.47" above normal
Bristol/TriCities - Since 1948, 1st warmest, 2.57" above normal
Current Moisture & Drought Status
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, ENSO - La Nina is expected to continue into the Northern Hemisphere Spring 2012, with ENSO-neutral or La Niña equally likely thereafter More (pdf report)....
The TVA Rainfall/Runoff comparison shows that we are currently at or near normal for the year so far.
